Anxiety & Overthinking
Calming the constant worry. Quieting the racing mind.
Do You Feel Constantly "Switched On"?
Do you feel constantly "switched on," stuck in worry, or unable to quiet your mind? Anxiety can leave you feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and disconnected from yourself. Together, we work to understand what your anxiety may be trying to communicate, helping you feel more grounded, calmer, and more in control.
What Anxiety Can Feel Like
Anxiety and overthinking can show up in many different ways:
- Constant worry about things that may or may not happen
- Racing thoughts that won't quiet, especially at night
- Difficulty concentrating or focusing on tasks
- A sense of dread or unease without knowing why
- Physical symptoms like tension, restlessness, or exhaustion
- Perfectionism and analysis paralysis
- Difficulty making decisions due to fear of getting it wrong
- People-pleasing and checking behaviors as ways to feel safe
For some people, anxiety shows up as obvious worry. For others, it appears more quietly through overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or unconscious avoidance of situations that feel threatening or uncomfortable.
Understanding Anxiety
Anxiety itself is not "bad"—it is a natural response designed to keep us safe, alert us to danger, and help us adapt to situations. The problem is not that anxiety exists; it is when it becomes overwhelming, limiting, or begins controlling your life.
Sometimes the ways we learn to protect ourselves were created when we were much younger, during experiences where we did not feel safe, understood, or emotionally secure. At other times, we may learn fear responses through difficult life experiences or even through the fears and anxieties of others around us. These adaptations once served a purpose, but over time they can become maladaptive—meaning the protection itself begins to create distress, avoidance, panic, or emotional exhaustion.
Rather than fighting against anxiety or trying to "get rid" of it, I work in a way that helps us become curious about it. Together, we begin to understand what the anxious part of you may be trying to communicate or protect you from.
How I Can Help
Understanding Your Anxiety
Using CBT, we can explore the links between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours, and understand what your anxiety may be trying to protect you from. By building understanding, compassion, and practical tools, we can begin updating these protective responses so they no longer harm you, restrict you, or keep you stuck.
Practical & Deeper Work
Alongside deeper therapeutic exploration, I can help you learn ways to:
- Regulate your nervous system and feel more grounded
- Manage triggering moments and reduce overwhelm
- Develop practical tools to use between sessions
- Understand what your anxiety may be trying to protect
- Build confidence and feel more in control
Your Pace, Your Way
The aim is not perfection or never feeling anxious again. The aim is to help you feel safer within yourself, more connected to your needs, and more able to move through life with confidence, awareness, and self-trust. We work at a pace that feels manageable for you, building understanding and tools as we go.
